Course FAQ
Data analytics focuses on business reporting, dashboards, and BI tools, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Excel. Data science involves programming in Python, statistical modelling, and building machine learning models. They are different roles with different tools and different entry requirements. If your goal is to work with business stakeholders and dashboards, analytics is the right track. TechSummitTrainers offers separate courses for both.
No. This course does not require Python or any programming background. SQL is covered from scratch. Excel is covered from basics through advanced. The only prerequisite is comfort with a computer and a willingness to work with numbers.
Both are leading BI tools and this course covers both. Power BI is Microsoft's platform, deeply integrated with Office 365 and Azure, widely used in Indian enterprises and MNCs. Tableau has stronger adoption at US-headquartered companies and in industries where Salesforce is the CRM. Knowing both makes you a more versatile analyst.
Data Analyst, Business Analyst, BI Developer, Reporting Analyst, MIS Executive, Operations Analyst. These roles exist across every industry, IT services, banking and finance, retail, healthcare, logistics, and consulting.
Yes. With the density of MNCs, banking-technology firms, BFSI companies, and product companies in Pune, data analyst roles are consistently among the most-posted non-engineering IT roles on Naukri and LinkedIn. Companies like Barclays, Deutsche Bank, Persistent, KPMG, and dozens of mid-sized firms in Hinjewadi and Kharadi hire data analysts regularly.
The course covers the full PL-300 (Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst) exam syllabus. We do not administer the exam, but students who complete the course are well-prepared to sit for PL-300 independently.
DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) is Power BI's formula language. It is what allows you to build calculated measures like year-over-year growth, running totals, cohort comparisons, and time intelligence functions, the kind of analytics that makes a dashboard genuinely useful rather than just a connected spreadsheet.
Data analytics trains you on BI tools for business reporting, Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Excel. Data science trains you on Python, machine learning, and statistical modelling. Analytics is the right track if you want to work with business stakeholders and dashboards. Data science is the right track if you want to build ML models and work with engineering teams.
Yes. The same live sessions run from our FC Road, Pune classroom and are streamed online simultaneously. You choose each day. All sessions are recorded and shared within 24 hours for revision.
The fee is confirmed at your free demo session. We offer flexible payment options. Book a demo, no payment or commitment required, and we will walk you through the fee structure.
Yes. We provide resume building tailored for data analyst roles, LinkedIn profile optimisation, mock interviews covering both technical (SQL, Power BI, case study) and HR rounds, and referrals to companies hiring in Pune.
Excellent fit. Data analytics is one of the few technical career paths where business domain knowledge is a genuine advantage, not a workaround. MBA and commerce graduates who add Power BI, SQL, and Tableau to their profile are strongly positioned for analyst roles in banking, finance, FMCG, consulting, and operations.
Other tracks at TechSummitTrainers
This is the most common question we get from students exploring the data field, and the honest answer is that they are genuinely different careers, not just the same thing at different depths.
A data analyst works with structured data to answer business questions. The day-to-day involves pulling data from SQL databases, building dashboards in Power BI or Tableau, writing reports that help a sales manager understand why Q3 underperformed, or tracking which marketing campaigns are converting. The tools are Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, and the stakeholders are business teams, not engineering teams. You do not need Python for this role. You need sharp logical thinking, attention to data quality, and the ability to turn numbers into a story that a non-technical audience can act on.
A data scientist, by contrast, works upstream. They build the models and pipelines that generate predictions, churn models, demand forecasting, recommendation engines. The tools are Python, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and cloud ML platforms. The day-to-day involves writing code, running experiments, and deploying models. This role typically requires a stronger mathematics and programming background.
Both roles are in demand in Pune. The question is which one fits your actual strengths and goals. If you want to work closely with business teams and care about communicating insights clearly, analytics is the right track. If you want to write code and build prediction systems, data science is the right track. If you're genuinely unsure, the free demo is the place to have that conversation with a mentor who works in this field.
The job description version says "analyse data and create reports." The reality is a bit more specific.
In a typical week at a mid-sized Pune company, say, a fintech or an e-commerce firm in Hinjewadi, a junior data analyst might spend Monday pulling last week's sales numbers from the SQL database and updating the weekly Power BI dashboard that the sales team reviews every Tuesday. Wednesday might be debugging a DAX measure that is not calculating the right YoY comparison. Thursday could be a meeting with the marketing team to understand what question they want answered, and then Friday is building a quick Tableau viz to show which customer acquisition channels are driving retention vs one-off purchases.
That is the texture of the work. It is not glamorous in the way that ML gets written about, but it is genuinely impactful, and there is a large, stable market of companies that need people who can do it well. The skills this course covers are exactly what that market is hiring for.
At larger companies, KPMG, Deloitte, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, all of which have significant Pune operations, a junior analyst might sit in a consulting or reporting team, working on client-facing dashboards or internal MIS (Management Information Systems). SQL fluency and Power BI certification are the most common minimum requirements for these roles.
Five years ago, a data analyst job in Pune might have required nothing more than Excel and a working knowledge of SQL. That bar has moved. Most job postings now specifically list Power BI or Tableau, not as a bonus, but in the requirements section.
Power BI has become the dominant BI tool in Indian enterprises because of its tight integration with Office 365 and Azure, both of which are the standard corporate stack at MNCs and large IT companies in Pune. When a company already runs on Microsoft infrastructure, the decision to standardise on Power BI is straightforward. The PL-300 certification has also given HR teams a clear signal to filter on, it is a real differentiator on a fresher resume.
Tableau's footprint in Pune is somewhat different, it shows up more at US-headquartered companies with Pune delivery centres, at consulting firms like Deloitte and Accenture, and in industries where Salesforce is the core CRM (since Tableau is now a Salesforce product). Companies in BFSI (banking, financial services, insurance) often use both, Power BI for internal reporting and Tableau for client-facing dashboards.
Learning both is not overkill. It makes you genuinely flexible across a wider range of employers. This course covers both in depth, not just how to build charts, but how to design a data model properly and write the DAX or Tableau LOD expressions that actually make a dashboard useful.
Yes, and arguably more naturally than an engineering fresher who is trying to decide between software development and data analytics.
Data analytics is one of the few technical career paths where business domain knowledge is a genuine competitive advantage. A commerce graduate who understands how a P&L works, what EBITDA means, and how a retail business tracks inventory has a head start on a CS fresher who needs to learn both the tools and the business context simultaneously.
MBAs from Pune's colleges, SIBM, SCMHRD, Symbiosis, and others, regularly move into analyst roles at consulting firms, FMCG companies, and banking operations centres. The career path usually looks like: MBA + Power BI + SQL → Business Analyst or Data Analyst at a consulting firm or large enterprise, with a move toward senior analytics or BI manager roles over three to five years.
Non-programmers from any discipline can do this. The course genuinely does not require coding. SQL is taught from scratch and covers the specific subset of SQL that analyst roles actually use, there is no need to understand database internals or write application code. If you can write an XLOOKUP in Excel, you are ready to start learning SQL.
What matters most in analyst interviews is not whether you can write Python. It is whether you can look at a dataset, spot what is worth analysing, and explain your findings clearly to a non-technical audience. That is a skill that benefits from business training, communication ability, and practice with the tools, all of which this course provides.
You do not need prior experience to join, Module 1 starts from Excel fundamentals. But if you want to arrive on day one already ahead, here is what genuinely helps:
If none of these apply yet, that is fine. The course is designed for complete beginners. These are optimisations for people who want a head start, not requirements for joining.
